The Indian Navy getting the 5th submarine from the Scorpene-class is highly crucial because at this point in time, our submarine fleet has come to a very basic level. Amidst the increasing presence of the Chinese navy in the Indian Ocean, INS Vagir a major accomplishment, as this can easily dodge the enemy’s radar, and can launch anti-ship missiles through tubes and torpedo attacks. This also makes less noise, and can steer clear of the enemy’s vision.

The navy has said that the submarine has the capability of launching marine commandos for special operations, and its powerful diesel engine can charge batteries quickly for secret missions. This also has ultra-modern torpedo decoy system for self-defense, and its radar system is one of the best across the world. More than 50 navy personnels and officers can become the part of a mission together in this submarine.

Currently, as compared to the vast expanse of ocean waters which the navy has to keep an eye on, the number of underwater platforms is limited.
