Latur: Maharashtra State Deputy Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that, efforts are being made to start the work of diverting the flowing water of the western channel rivers to Marathwada region this year.
Mr Fadnavis was speaking on the occasion of unveiling of Karmaveet Dr Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar’s memorial at Nilanga of district .
The memorial was unveiled by former Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil Chakurkar.
Former Chief Minister of the state and former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Minister and MLA Jayant Patil, former Minister and MLA Yashomati Thakur, Mrs. Sushilabai Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar were present as chief guests on this occasion while all the people representatives of different parties and top brass officials were also present.
Mr Fadnavis said that ,the waters of the western channel rivers in the Krishna basin will be diverted to the sea in the Godavari basin and brought to Marathwada and the process of completing the technical aspects for this is in the final stage and efforts are underway to start this work in 2023 itself.
Dr. Patil Nilangekar always thought of the welfare of the society. He was insistent for the development of Marathwada. He contributed significantly in the formation of many irrigation projects in the state including Lower Terna, Manjra project in the district, he said .
He successfully fought his way up to the Supreme Court to become a bench of the High Court at Aurangabad. So today it is helping the people of Marathwada to get speedy justice. While working as the Chief Minister of the state, Dr. Patil Nilangekar made plans for the development of common people. The development of Marathwada, Vidarbha and Konkan was accelerated by implementing the forty-point programme,said Mr Fadnavis.
The development of Marathwada had a dream of Dr. Patil Nilangekar ,to fulfill his dream, it is necessary to provide irrigation facilities in Marathwada. For this, the water flowing to the sea from the western channel rivers will be brought to Marathwada. Without it the drought of Marathwada will not be removed and alternatively the development of Maharashtra will not be complete,added Mr Fadnavis .
