Heatwave sweeps Odisha, Naveen announces summer vacation for all schools

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday declared summer vacation for all schools in Odisha from Friday keeping because of the intense heatwave conditions prevailing in the state.

The summer vacation as per the educational calendar this year was to start from May 4 to June 17 but the Chief Minister advanced the summer vacation as Odisha is reeling under severe heatwave conditions for the last few days.

As per the Chief Minister’s directive all government, private and aided schools from standard one to 12 will remain closed from Friday. The date of the reopening of the schools will be taken up by the department concerned later.

Earlier, the government had closed the schools for five days from April 12 to 16 which was further extended for two days on April 19 due to heatwave conditions.

Several parts of Odisha are sizzling with unprecedented heatwave conditions this time with the mercury hovering over 40 degree Celsius across the state while maximum day temperature hovering over 43 degree Celsius at many places.
