Lausanne: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Tuesday the changes of formats and names involving four events at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.

The Alpine combined, Nordic combined men’s team, ski jumping team and cross-country ski events have several changes to either format or distance, after proposals from the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) were approved by the IOC Executive Board (EB).

The IOC EB also approved the changes of qualification systems for five sports at Milan-Cortina 2026, including biathlon, curling, figure skating, short-track speed skating and ski mountaineering.

Ski mountaineering is a new sport that will debut at Milan-Cortina 2026, which the IOC says will be the most gender-balanced Olympic Winter Games in history.
