Bhupalpally (Telangana): Around 1500 people were in a critical situation as the entire Moranchapalle village in Telangana’s Bhupalpally district was submerged in flood water following heavy rains since the past three days.
The Morancha stream overflowed, and flood water entered houses in Moranchapalle. This forced the 1500 residents to seek safety on rooftops and even trees while awaiting rescue.
The traffic between Bhupalpally-Parkal National Highway was completely at standstill due to the floods and at some places in the district, lorries have been submerged in the rising waters.
Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed with boats from Mulugu and Warangal to rescue the affected people.
Authorities have requested Chief Minister K.Chandashekhar Rao, who is monitoring the situation with the officials concerned, to arrange helicopters for the rescue operations. However, the inclement weather has posed challenges, hindering helicopter movement at the moment.
According to unofficial reports, three villagers including a woman are missing in the floods but the authorities are yet to confirm.
On Twitter, Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar said the Bhupalpally district police are trying to reach the critical areas.
The SP Pulla Karunakar and other officers are in touch with the stranded people. “All are safe. Rescue and Relief operations are on the way,” he tweeted.
“These are testing times for all of us, and the enthusiasm of police constables, officers led by seniors is praiseworthy. Senior officers from Multi Zone, IG C. S. Reddy and IG Shahnawaz, are also in the field, guiding and coordinating with SPs and other departments’, the DGP added.
