Agartala: The long-awaited rail communication through Bangladesh from Agartala to West Bengal is expected to begin this year, and if this happens, reaching Kolkata will be a matter of only 10 hours, said Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday while talking about the development initiative of the Modi government for the Northeast.

He said more than Rs 235 crore has been allocated for the modernization of Agartala railway station, and over the past nine years, the face of the North Eastern states has changed drastically. There has been a great improvement in rail connectivity in Tripura and other states in the region, and now it is also expanding internationally.

“The railway line now reaches Bangladesh through Agartala, which was never thought of before. And this is possible only because of the Act East policy of the central government. More than Rs 96 crore has been sanctioned for the modernization of Udaipur, Kumarghat, and Dharmanagar railway stations with various high-quality facilities.”
