New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday introduced three Bills—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Bill, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, in the Lok Sabha in a bid to bring reforms in the criminal justice system in the country.

Shah said the country’s criminal justice system has been functioning as per the laws made by the British rulers according to their convenience but these three Bills will replace the existing system.

He said in the prevalent laws, the crime against women and children was given 302 positions but in these Bills the first chapter will be crime against women and children.

“Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023 will replace the CrPc 1860, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Bill, 2023 will replace the Criminal Procedure Court 1858 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 the Indian Evidence Act 1872,” the Home Minister said.

“These Bills have been brought with an aim to provide justice to the people rather than penalizing them,” he added.

“The digitalization system has been introduced in new laws so that during the proceedings in the Court piles of papers do not accumulate,” Shah said.

He said “Videography will be required during the search and seizure proceedings to avoid any allegation of framing false charges. Videography will be an important part of investigation,” said Shah.
