Huzurabad (Telangana): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday criticised the BRS government for its failure to usher in development despite being in power for two consecutive terms following the formation of Telangana in 2014.

Addressing an election campaign meeting christened “Jana Garjhana” (People’s Roar), in Jammikunta within the Huzurabad Assembly Constituency, Rajnath pointed out that despite the public’s trust, no significant progress was achieved under Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s leadership.

He emphasised that despite the special state status granted by the erstwhile Congress-led Central government with certain obligations, the problems in both Telugu states remained unresolved due to the Congress’s shortcomings.

Rajnath further highlighted the BJP’s successful establishment of three states – Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand – and their development, in contrast to the situation in Telangana where only the KCR family “seemed to benefit” from the governance.

Furthermore, Rajnath Singh flayed the BRS government for introducing the Dharani portal, which, according to him, led to the disappearance of thousands of acres of land in Telangana. He emphasised that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, houses had been constructed for four crore underprivileged individuals across the nation.

He claimed that during the Congress era, only a fraction of the aid reached its intended beneficiaries, but under PM Narendra Modi’s government, corruption has been curtailed by directly depositing funds into bank accounts.

Coming down heavily on the state’s politics based on caste, religion, region, and class, he predicted that the chances of the BRS retaining power was “diminishing” and exuded confidence about the BJP coming to power in Telangana.

The upcoming elections in Telangana are scheduled for November 30, with the BJP trying to position itself as an alternative to the long-standing parties.
