Bengaluru: Amid shocking allegations of sexual misconduct and even while under police custody, Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna is currently leading the race for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka as of 11 am, throwing the political landscape into a whirlwind of uncertainty.

The battleground for the Lok Sabha election 2024 in Hassan witnessed its share of drama during the second phase of the seven-phase polling on April 26. Despite the cloud of scandal looming over him, Prajwal’s electoral prowess seems undeterred.

His chief adversary, Congress’ Shreyas M Patel, grandson of the late G Puttaswamy Gowda, has put up a fierce fight, amassing 1,90,337 votes in a neck-and-neck competition that has kept the electorate on the edge of their seats.

The turnout for this election has been nothing short of remarkable, with a staggering 77.42 percent of voters casting their ballots, marking one of the highest participation in recent memory and eclipsing the 73.47 percent turnout recorded in 2009.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda’s decision to pass the baton to his grandson Prajwal in 2019 seemed like a strategic move that paid off handsomely, as Prajwal clinched victory with a commanding vote share of 52.96 percent, leaving his closest rival, BJP leader Manju A, trailing by a considerable margin of 11.06 percent.

However, Prajwal’s current predicament casts a shadow over his political future. Facing grave accusations of rape and sexual assault, his once-promising career now hangs in the balance. The emergence of damning videos allegedly implicating him with multiple women has sent shockwaves through the constituency, capturing the attention of both local and national audiences alike.

As the saga unfolds, all eyes are on Hassan, waiting with bated breath to see how this captivating political drama will reach its climax.
