ZNPP cooling tower damaged after direct strikes by Ukrainian Drones

Moscow: The cooling tower of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) was seriously damaged as a result of two direct strikes by Ukrainian Armed Forces attack drones, the resulting fire was extinguished, the threat of the structure’s collapse will be assessed by experts when the situation allows to do it, Russian state corporation Rosatom said in a statement on Monday.

“As a result of the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the cooling tower of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was seriously damaged,” the statement says.

According to Rosatom, “on August 11, at 20:20 and 20:32, one of the two cooling towers of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was directly struck by Ukrainian attack drones, resulting in a fire with burning internal structures. By 23:30, the main fire was extinguished by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.”

“However, the internal structures of the cooling tower were seriously damaged. The threat of collapse of the structure will be assessed by experts when the situation allows to do it,” Rosatom noted
