Modi-Wong talks: India, Singapore elevate ties, ink four MoUs, including in semiconductor partnership

Singapore/New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that during the talks with Singapore PM Lawrence Wong, they focused on boosting cooperation in skilling, tech, healthcare and trade, even as the two sides inked four MoUs, including in Semiconductor Partnership.

The two sides also agreed to elevate their ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In a post on X after holding bilateral talks, the PM said:

“The discussions with my friend, PM Lawrence Wong continued today. Our talks focused on boosting cooperation in areas like skilling, technology, healthcare, AI and more. We both agreed on the need to boost trade relations.”

The MEA spokesperson said on X that the two sides extensively reviewed various facets of the bilateral relationship covering areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalization, Healthcare & Medicine, Skills Development and Sustainability.

“A new chapter in India-Singapore ties: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established.

“PM @narendramodi and PM @LawrenceWongST held a productive meeting in Singapore today.

“The leaders agreed to elevate the India-Singapore ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

“They extensively reviewed various facets of the bilateral relationship covering areas of Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalization, Healthcare & Medicine, Skills Development and Sustainability.

“The leaders also witnessed exchange of MoUs for cooperation in Semiconductors, Digital Technologies, Skill Development and Healthcare.”

In his opening remarks during the holding of bilateral talks, PM Modi said that Singapore is an inspiration for developing countries and that India wants to create many Singapores within itself, and both sides are working towards it.

He also said that the ministerial roundtable between the two sides is a pathbreaking mechanism.

PM Modi said that this is their first meeting since PM Wong took over the reins of government, and congratulated PM Wong.

“Singapore is not just a partner country but is an inspiration for every developing country.

“In India we want to create many Singapores, and I am happy that we are making progress in that direction.

“The ministerial roundtable between us is a path breaking mechanism.

“With focus on cooperation in skilling, mobility, digitalisation, advance manufacturing, semiconductor, tech, AI, healthcare, security, it has become a hallmark,” he added.

Earlier in the morning, the PM was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Singapore parliament and received by Singapore PM Lawrence Wong.
