Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested three individuals and seized 808.18 kilograms of Ganja, valued at Rs 1.61 crore in the grey market, from their possession.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted a Tata truck transporting the contraband, concealed under empty fruit crates, at the Krishnavaram Toll Plaza in Jaggampeta, Andhra Pradesh, on October 5, 2024, according to a DRI statement released late on Sunday night.

The individuals in a pilot vehicle accompanying the truck tried to evade the officers by ramming through the toll gate barrier upon noticing the approaching DRI team. However, after an hour-long chase, the vigilant DRI officials apprehended the two suspects who were escorting the truck.

Upon inspection, both the truck and the pilot vehicle were seized, along with the 808.18 kg of Ganja. The driver of the truck and the two individuals in the pilot vehicle admitted to transporting the illegal substance to neighbouring states.

The Ganja, also known as Cannabis, along with the two vehicles, was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody for 12 days, and further investigations are underway, the DRI statement added.
