5 MBBS students killed in car-bus collision in Kerala

Alappuzha (Kerala): Five first-year MBBS students were killed after their car collided head-on with a state transport bus in Kerala’s Alapuzzha district here on Monday night.

According to sources, as many as 15 bus passengers and another 6 students in the car were also injured in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Devananthan (19), Kottakkal in Malappuram; Sreedev Valson (19), Sekharipuram in Palakkad; Ayush Shaji (19), Chennadu in Kottayam; PP Mohammed Ibrahim (19), Androth in Lakshadweep; and Mohammed Abdul Jabbar (19), Pandyala in Kannur.

The Guruvayur–Kayamkulam Fast Passenger bus collided head-on with the car carrying 11 persons. Three car occupants died on the spot. The injured were taken to the TD Medical College hospital at Vandanam here.

The locals rushed to the spot and rescued injured persons from the mangled car. The accident happened during heavy rains in the area.

The incident caused severe traffic block on the NH, and it was resolved after the police removed the accident vehicles from the spot.
