Belagavi: A case has been registered against individuals who allegedly attempted to attack BJP MLC CT Ravi on December 19 at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.

The complaint, filed at the Hirebagewadi police station, claims that CT Ravi’s life was under threat, with the attackers allegedly aiming to kill him. The case has been booked under various legal provisions, including sections BNS 189(2), 191(2), 190, 126(2), 352, and 351(2).

The incident reportedly stems from Ravi’s controversial statements against Karnataka Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.

Notably, BJP leaders, including MLC DS Arun and Prof. S.V. Sankanura, had approached the Home Department Secretary after Ravi’s earlier complaint was not registered. The current case was filed based on a complaint by BR Kishora.

On Sunday, CT Ravi questioned the justification behind his arrest and subsequent relocation across four districts. He criticised the government’s explanation of “security reasons,” alleging insufficient arrangements for his protection.

“The public is with us… They stand in my support. Why was I arrested? Why was I transferred to four districts? The CM claims it was due to security concerns, but why is it easier to secure an isolated location rather than a police station?” Ravi remarked.

Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar had filed a case against Ravi, accusing him of using derogatory language against her in the Legislative Council.

The Karnataka High Court granted Ravi interim relief, and he was welcomed by BJP supporters at the party office in Bengaluru on Saturday. However, the MLC has reiterated his concerns over his safety, demanding a judicial inquiry into the threats against him.

“I still face life threats. I urge the government to provide adequate protection. If anything happens to me, the government will be held accountable,” Ravi stated at a press conference.

He further alleged that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar were involved in a conspiracy against him.
