Melbourne: Yashasvi Jaiswal has etched his name in the history books by scoring the third-most runs for India in a calendar year in Test cricket.

With a remarkable tally of 1,478 runs in 2024, Jaiswal has surpassed the legendary Virender Sehwag’s 1,462 runs from 2008, cementing his place among the all-time greats.

However, Jaiswal still trails behind the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, who holds the top spot with 1,562 runs in 2010, and Sunil Gavaskar, who amassed 1,555 runs in 1979.

This remarkable feat includes three centuries, underscoring his consistency and adaptability in the longest format of the game.

A standout moment in Jaiswal’s 2024 season was his back-to-back double centuries against England in January. He became the third Indian batsman, after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli, to achieve this feat, and the third youngest cricketer in Test history to have two double centuries to his name, after Sir Don Bradman and Vinod Kambli.

In the same series, Jaiswal equaled the world record held by Wasim Akram for the most number of sixes (12) scored by a cricketer in a Test innings. He also became only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score 700 runs in a Test series.

These achievements underscore Jaiswal’s exceptional talent and his significant contribution to Indian Test cricket in 2024.
