Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy unveiled an ambitious plan to develop a “Future City” in Hyderabad, positioning it to compete with renowned global cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, Seoul, and Dubai.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the CII National Council meeting at the CII Green Business Centre in Hitech City on Friday.
During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted Telangana’s progress over the past decade since its formation, expressing optimism about the state’s continued development.
He described “Telangana Rising” as a vision for a prosperous and innovative state, with the Future City playing a central role. This proposed urban centre, he said, would be dedicated to the service sector and serve as a model of environmental sustainability, achieving net-zero emissions and operating as a pollution-free zone.
The Chief Minister elaborated on key infrastructure projects aimed at supporting this vision. He announced the construction of a 360-km-long Regional Ring Road (RRR) and plans for a Regional Ring Railway to enhance connectivity.
Radial roads will link the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the RRR, ensuring efficient transportation across the city. Additionally, the revival of the Musi River will provide 55 kilometres of fresh water flow, catering to Hyderabad’s drinking water needs through 2050.
Reddy emphasised the importance of making Hyderabad resilient to natural disasters and transforming it into a flood-free city. These efforts, he said, would be complemented by significant investments in the area between the ORR and RRR, which will be developed as a hub for industries including pharmaceuticals, life sciences, aerospace, defence, electric vehicles, and solar energy.
Telangana’s push for sustainability and technological advancement was further underscored by its leadership in electric vehicle (EV) adoption. The state plans to introduce 3,200 EV buses into its RTC fleet while removing registration and road tax for EVs. Reddy noted that Telangana currently leads India in EV sales, demonstrating its commitment to environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
The Chief Minister also detailed plans for rural development, focusing on agriculture, organic farming, and the establishment of cold storage facilities and warehouses outside the ORR.
To boost trade, Telangana will establish a dry port with dedicated road and rail links to Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring seamless connectivity and economic growth.
Calling for collaboration, Reddy invited investors to join Telangana’s journey toward becoming a global economic powerhouse. “Come, let’s create wonders together. Telangana offers the highest ease of doing business, not just in India but globally,” he said.
