Hyderabad: In a significant step towards implementing the Supreme Court’s verdict on Scheduled Caste (SC) classification, the state government had appointed a Cabinet Sub-Committee on September 12 last year.

The committee is chaired by Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, with Medical and Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha serving as co-chairman. Other members include Ministers Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Seethakka (Anasuya), and MP Mallu Ravi.

Acting upon the Supreme Court’s ruling, the government has further appointed former High Court judge Shamim Akhtar as a one-member judicial commission to oversee and advance the SC classification process, based on the recommendations of the sub-committee.

After a thorough examination of all relevant matters, the one-member judicial commission is set to submit its report to the sub-committee on Monday, February 3rd, in the chamber of the Minister of Irrigation at the Secretariat.

Following the report submission, the sub-committee, under the leadership of Chairman Uttam Kumar Reddy, will convene to deliberate on the findings and formulate recommendations for the state cabinet.

The state cabinet is scheduled to meet on February 4 at 1000, where the recommendations of both the judicial commission and the sub-committee will be presented.

Additionally, on the same day, a special session of the Legislative Assembly will be held for a brief discussion on the recommendations made by the sub-committee regarding the SC classification. This move is expected to play a crucial role in shaping policy decisions related to the classification process in the state, an official statement said.
