EAM meets with FMs of Ireland, Algeria, holds trilateral with Australia, France

Johannesburg/New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in Johannesburg, met with his counterparts from Ireland and Algeria, with the Foreign Ministers of Australia and France as part of the trilateral, and also with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

The EAM posted on X on his meetings that took place on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting:

“A quick chat with Tánaiste & FM @SimonHarrisTD of Ireland on the sidelines of G20 FMM.

“Look forward to continuing our conversation.”

Simon Harris is Tánaiste or the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, as well as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Minister for Defence.

Tanaiste means the second-ranking member of the government of Ireland and the holder of its second-most senior office. It is the equivalent of the deputy prime minister in other parliamentary systems.

EAM also met with the Algerian FM Ahmed Attaf, during which they also discussed the fraught situation in the Middle East:

“Nice to see FM @AhmedAttaf_Dz of Algeria.

“Good conversation on our partnership and cooperation in multilateral arena. Also discussed the developments in West Asia.”

He met with Australian FM Penny Wong and the FM of France Jean-Noël Barrot for the India-Australia-France trilateral meeting.

“Great to meet FMs @SenatorWong and @jnbarrot Jean-Noël Barrot at the India-Australia-France trilateral meeting in Johannesburg.

“Our three countries have shared interests in the Indo-Pacific and the potential to strengthen each other’s position. Appreciate the ideas put forward in the trilateral and look forward to realizing them in practical ways.”

He also held a first meeting with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission

“A productive first meeting with EU HRVP @kajakallas today in Johannesburg.

“We discussed India-EU ties, developments in Europe, the Ukraine conflict and other global issues. Look forward to welcoming the EU Commission and EU College to India soon.”
