New Delhi: The Bar Council of India (BCI) is gearing up for a crucial elections on March 2, 2025, to elect its Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Executive Members.
With intense competition and growing speculation over potential leadership shifts, this election is set to be one of the most closely watched in BCI history.
In a press release issued by Srimanto Sen, Principal Secretary, BCI, said that the deadline for nominations is February 28, 2025, while candidates can withdraw their nominations by March 1, 2025.
The elections will be held on March two and results will be declared by the evening same day.
This year’s elections are expected to be fiercely contested, with members from various states actively strategizing to challenge the existing leadership.
Currently, Senior Advocate and Rajya Sabha MP, Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar has held the Chairman’s position for six consecutive terms.
Tamil Nadu’s Senior Advocate S Prabhakaran has served as Vice Chairman for the past three years, while Senior Advocate Apurba Kumar Sharma from Assam is the Executive Chairman. Their positions will be up for election, with new challengers emerging to reshape the Council’s leadership.
Apart from the Chairman and Vice Chairman elections, executive members of the BCI will also be elected, who will subsequently select the Executive Committee Chairman—a pivotal role in shaping the Council’s policies and decision-making processes.
For the past six terms, the Chairman’s position has been secured unopposed by Bihar, but this time, a major challenge is brewing as members from other states prepare to contest. Despite the emerging competition, Mishra remains a formidable candidate, widely recognized for his strong connections within the legal fraternity, government, and Supreme Court.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman and executive member elections are expected to be intensely fought, with multiple aspirants vying for these influential roles.
The election outcome on March 2, 2025, will not only determine the next leadership of the BCI but also shape its policies and direction in the years ahead.
With the battle intensifying, all eyes are on BCI’s leadership transition, making this a defining moment for India’s legal fraternity.
