Stalin says US tariff hike hits TN Textile exports hard, suffers Rs 3,000 cr loss

Chennai: Pointing out that the 50 per cent tariff hike imposed by the US on Indian imports has hit the Tamil Nadu’s exports hard, causing a trade impact of Rs 3,000 crore in the Textile hub of Tiruppur, Chief Minister M K Stalin today urged the union Government to provide immediate relief and structural reforms to safeguard the industries and workers.

In a social media post, tagging a news story published in a vernacular daily in this regard, Mr Stalin said the US tariff hike has put thousands of jobs at risk.

“The US Tariff hike to 50% has hit Tamil Nadu’s exports hard, especially Tiruppur’s textile hub, causing a trade impact of nearly Rs.3,000 crore and putting thousands of jobs at risk”, he said. 

“I reiterate my demands to the union Government for immediate relief and structural reforms to safeguard our industries and workers”, he added.
