Lucknow: A major case of GST evasion has come to light in the UP capital, with an FIR being registered against the owner of a fake firm, Rambharose, at the Aliganj police station. The firm is accused of fraudulently claiming Input Tax Credit (ITC) worth over Rs 8.81 crore by showing fake business transactions in online GST records.

The firm, named Shri Ram Enterprises, had obtained a GSTIN for the trade of waste, scrap, and pairings. However, investigations by the State Tax Department revealed that the registration was done using forged electricity bills.

When officials conducted an inspection on June 26, 2025, at the declared address on Sitapur Road, Lucknow, no such firm was found at the location, nor were local residents aware of its existence.

Further probe revealed that the firm had declared outward supplies worth Rs 48.99 crore in its GSTR-1 filing for May 2025. Through this, it passed on fake ITC amounting to Rs 8.81 crore to 16 other companies. The firm’s own GSTR-2A/2B records showed no inward supply, exposing the fraudulent nature of the transactions.

Several other firms, including SK Traders, DSG Enterprises, Jupiter Services, and Shri Ganesh Enterprises, have also been named in connection with this tax scam. Following a complaint filed by the Deputy Commissioner of the State Tax Department, an FIR (No. 0185) was lodged yesterday under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The complaint was supported by forged electricity bills, a copy of the registration certificate, and a photograph of the accused. Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar Mishra has been assigned to investigate the case.

Authorities are now expanding the probe to uncover the full extent of the fraud and identify all entities involved in the tax evasion network.
