New Delhi: Amid deteriorating air quality in the National Capital, the Delhi government on Wednesday announced that the winter break in schools has been preponed and will be observed from November 9 to 18.

As per government order, in the wake of implementation of GRAP-IV measures due to ‘severe’ category of air quality prevailing in Delhi for several days, the winter break for this year is ordered to be preponed so that schools can be totally closed and children and teachers can stay at home.

According to an order, all schools will observe winter break from November 9 (tomorrow) to 18 (Saturday). The information will be conveyed to parents.

It is known that the air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the ‘severe’ category. It is believed that students are more vulnerable to air pollution.

Meanwhile, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai today said in a press conference that they have issued an order to DPCC to run the smog tower at full capacity from tomorrow as Delhi continues reeling under choked air pollution for the last several days.

Hitting out at BJP-led ruled state governments, Rai alleged that BJP ruled governments were inactive on pollution issues. “It seems that pollution is not a serious issue for BJP governed states. They only make statements on pollution but don’t do anything on ground,” alleged Rai.
