New Delhi: After successful stints in the Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi film industries, veteran producer Anand Pandit is now making a foray into the Southern region by producing ‘Kabzaa’, a Kannada action thriller headlined by superstar Upendra.

Helmed by acclaimed Producer and Director R Chandru, the film narrates the story of how a freedom fighter’s son, due to unfortunate circumstances enters the crime mafia and grows into a powerful gangster.

“It is a dream come true for me to now step into an industry that I have admired from afar. Kannada cinema has grown from strength to strength and its recent successes are not a fluke but the result of an astute understanding of what the audience really wants today; relatable stories that have mass appeal and yet great production values, wonderful ensemble actors and stars who do justice to the characters that they are given to play,” Pandit said in a statement.

“I feel elated that I am marking my debut in Kannada with a superstar like Upendra who has consistently given hits and enjoyed great adulation across decades,” he shared.

“Movies like ‘KGF -Chapter 1 and 2’ and the latest box office sensation, ‘Kantara’ have elevated Kannada cinema to an unprecedented level and they are doing supremely well not just in India but in international markets and I am very happy to back a story that I believe will be a resounding success across the country and beyond,” added Pandit.

“This is my first pan-Indian project and the third movie with Upendra. Unlike my other movies, I have trodden a different path this time with ‘Kabzaa’. The film navigates different time zones and periods right from the pre-independence era to subsequent years. The movie also shows that even though circumstances define us most of the time, we can still defy the odds to fulfill our destiny,” says the director, Chandru, who is also co-producing the movie under the banner of Sri Siddeshwara Enterprises.

“With the backing of an established producer and distributor like Anand sir, I am sure that the movie will reach a wider audience and be embraced by multiple demographics,” he adds.

Sudeep Sanjeev alias Kichcha Sudeepa stars with Shriya Saran in the film and the period gangster movie also features well-known actors like Murali Sharma, Posani Krishna Murali, Sunil Puranik, and Pramod Shetty.

The crime thriller is produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures in association with Sri Siddeshwara Enterprises and Alankar Pandian and is directed by R Chandru.
