Hyderabad: BRS MLA Harish Rao strongly criticised the Congress government for failing to fulfill promises made before the elections in the name of change.

Speaking during the general discussion on the 2025-26 budget in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, he accused the ruling party of misleading people and failing to deliver on key commitments.

Harish Rao pointed out that the government had promised to implement the Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS) for free but is now collecting hefty fees from the public. He also questioned the loan waiver scheme, stating that while the government claimed Rs 31,000 crore had been mobilised for loan waivers, only Rs 20,000 crore was waived. Additionally, he noted that interest-free loans have not been disbursed this financial year, contrary to the government’s claims.

He criticized the Congress for failing to fulfill its Rythu Bandhu promise of Rs 15,000 per acre and neglecting tenant farmers in the budget. He also slammed the government for failing to construct Indiramma houses.

Rao further alleged that the government had failed to allocate funds for crop insurance, making farmers vulnerable to losses. He mocked the job calendar, calling it a “jobless calendar,” and criticised the government for delays in land acquisition for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) despite allocating Rs 1,525 crore in the previous budget.

He accused the government of deceiving auto drivers, RTC workers, and students by failing to deliver on financial aid and welfare benefits. Harish Rao also questioned the Congress’ strategy to raise revenue, pointing out that Rs 30,000 crore is being raised through the auction of 400 acres in Gachibowli and another Rs 10,000 crore loan was taken by pledging TGIIC lands. He alleged that the government plans to mortgage HMDA lands to raise Rs 20,000 crore.

Harish Rao questioned the government’s double standards on land sales, recalling that Congress leaders had opposed land acquisitions earlier but are now selling public lands themselves. He warned that the state’s financial situation is deteriorating due to the Congress’ failure to manage revenue effectively.
