C130 Aircraft lands with rescue equipment, over 700 evacuated from landslide-hit Wayanad

Wayanad: An Indian Air Force Aircraft C130 landed in Kozhikode with rescue equipment to support Armed Forces which evacuated over 700 people from various landslide-hit areas so far.

“The Indian Air Force Aircraft C130 carrying the second Column of troops along with rescue equipment from Pangode Military Station Trivandrum has landed in Kozhikode . The troops will engage in rescue operations in Wayanad,” Defence PRO Trivandrum said in a message on X.

“Rescue operations are in full swing as all services of the Armed Forces engage in extensive efforts along with Civil administration and Disaster Relief Forces to assist those affected,” Southern Command Indian Army said in a message on X.

“Over 700 individuals have been safely evacuated through a combination of improvised bridging and dedicated human effort,” it added.

“Those who have been rescued are receiving due care at the mosque area in #Mundakkai, while the deceased are being shifted to the Tea Garden Labour Colony for further action by civil authorities. Additionally, mechanical resources are being employed to clear debris and silt, aiding in the ongoing recovery and relief operations.”

“In all, four columns with Medical Aid Posts have reached the site. Areas affected are – Vellarimela, Muppidi, Mundekkai, Chooralmala, Attamala and Noolpuzha. More than 150 people have been evacuted to safety. Rescue efforts in other locations are underway.”

“Two additional relief columns, including medical teams from Trivandrum, are being airlifted to Calicut by Indian Air Force aircraft AN-32 and C-130. An AN-32 aircraft with one column on board has reached Calicut at 5 pm, and coordination for further movement from Calicut to the affected sites is being coordinated with the Kerala State Government’s assistance.”

“Engineer Task Force (ETF) from Madras Engineers Group including JCB & TATRA, and One set of 110-foot T/S Bailey Bridge and flood relief store underway from Bangalore to the mishap site.”

“Movement of 110 Feet bridging equipment from Delhi with the help of C-17 underway. Three sniffer dogs are also being mobilised to the site.”
