Copyright case against stand-up comedian Vir Das

Mumbai: A case has been registered against actor and comedian Vir Das for allegedly stealing content despite agreement.

The Cuff Pared Police Station has registered the complaint filed by producer Ashvin Gidwani, the Managing Director of Ashvin Gidwani Production Pvt. Ltd alleging that Das stole 12 jokes from a script they jointly created.

An officer said that after the FIR was lodged against Das, they contacted the “Delhi Belly” actor and wanted to know his side, but that has not yet happened.

The FIR is based on the Copyright Act 1957. We are investigating the matter, the officer added.
