Bengaluru: Dalilah Muhammad, one of the most celebrated athletes in global track and field, has been named the International Event Ambassador for the 17th edition of the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) World 10K Bengaluru, scheduled for April 27.

The American 400m hurdler is a two-time Olympic gold medallist (2016, 2020), world record holder, and a vocal advocate for diversity in sports. Her appointment brings international prestige to the event and highlights her stature as both an elite athlete and an inspiration to future generations.

Dalilah’s breakthrough came at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she claimed gold in the 400m hurdles. In 2019, she etched her name into history at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by clocking 52.20 seconds, breaking a 16-year-old world record.

Later that year, she bettered her own record to 52.16 at the World Championships in Doha. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Dalilah delivered a stunning performance, finishing with a time of 51.58 seconds, narrowly behind Sydney McLaughlin’s world record run of 51.46.

Dalilah’s achievements, coupled with her work mentoring young athletes and promoting inclusion in sports, have made her a role model worldwide. Her influence extends beyond the track, as she actively champions diversity and accessibility in athletics.

“I am honoured to be the International Event Ambassador for the 17th edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru,” Dalilah said. “My journey began with a local running club, and that passion has grown into a lifelong commitment to athletics. I look forward to witnessing the energy and enthusiasm of Bengaluru’s running community.”

Vivek Singh, Joint Managing Director of Procam International, organisers of the event, welcomed the announcement, saying, “Dalilah’s extraordinary accomplishments and dedication to empowering the next generation make her the ideal ambassador. We are proud to have her join us in celebrating Bengaluru’s running culture.”

The TCS World 10K Bengaluru, one of the premier road races globally, will feature elite international and domestic runners competing for a prize fund of USD 210,000. Thousands of amateur runners are also expected to participate in the 10K course through the vibrant streets of the city.

Dalilah’s association with the event reinforces its mission to promote healthy living, inclusivity, and athletic excellence. Her presence is set to elevate the race further, as Bengaluru gears up to host another landmark edition of this globally acclaimed event.
