Delhi court grants 10-day remand of Lawrence Bishnoi to Crime Branch

On Thursday, Delhi’s Saket court granted 10 days of custody of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi to the Delhi police crime branch, in an extortion case, wherein extortion calls were made to an advocate in the South East Delhi area. Lawrence was arrested on May 31st in this case, prior to which, an FIR was lodged at the Sunlight Colony police station, based on the complaint of advocate Ramandeep Singh, on April 24th.

The Delhi police had moved an application seeking a 14-day remand of Bishnoi, and the custody was granted by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Shivani Chauhan. Counsel for the accused, Vishal Chopra, submitted that he had no objection if the police remand is granted as the same was being sought for investigation purposes.

Liberty has been granted to Chopra to talk to the accused, Bishnoi, for 10 minutes every day via video or audio call, and physically for 30 minutes every alternate day, during the entire period of police remand.

The complainant, advocate Ramandeep Singh had alleged that on the night of March 23, he had received a call from an international number, and the caller had demanded Rs 1 crore from him. Following which he had received multiple calls from an international number and a threat to his and his family members’ lives.
