Giant killer Rashid demolishes opponents in 14 Baramulla segments

Srinagar: Jailed politician Abdul Rashid Sheikh aka Engineer Rashid who proved a giant killer on Tuesday by defeating two top J&K politicians — Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone — demolished his opponents in 14 Assembly segments of the Baramulla Parliamentary seat.

The Baramulla Parliamentary seat has 18 Assembly segments that are spread over four districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, and Budgam.

Engineer Rashid defeated his nearest rival former chief minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah with a margin of over 2.41 lakh votes.

According to Election Commission of India figures Engineer Rashid bagged 4,72,481 votes while Omar was second with 2,68,339. Peoples Conference head Sajad Lone was in the third position with 1,73,239 votes.

The Assembly segment wise data of the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat shows that NC led only in three segments that included Gurez, Budgam and Pattan.

Sajad managed to get a lead in only the Handwara Assembly segment over Engineer Rashid.

In all other 14 Assembly segments, including the ones considered as strong holds of NC and PC, Engineer Rashid managed to get a massive lead from his opponents.

In the six Assembly segments in Kupwara district, Engineer led in the five segments.

In the seven Assembly segments in Baramulla, Engineer led in six segments.

In Bandipora district, out of three, Engineer Rashid led in two Assembly segments.

In two Assembly segments of Budgam district, Engineer led in one and Omar in another.

Engineer Rashid got highest votes from Bandipora Assembly segment where he polled over 42,000 votes
