Bengaluru: India’s batting stalwarts Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma failed to make an impression in their respective Ranji Trophy encounters, raising questions about their form as the national team gears up for crucial international fixtures.

Shubman Gill, representing Punjab, continued his lean patch, scoring just four runs against Karnataka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.

After a disappointing run in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he managed only 93 runs in five innings, Gill’s struggles persisted in domestic cricket. Although he began with a boundary off Abhilash Shetty, he was caught behind while attempting to counter Shetty’s consistent line.

In Mumbai’s clash against Jammu & Kashmir, skipper Rohit Sharma also faltered, managing only three runs. Playing domestic cricket after a decade, Rohit looked unsettled against pacer Umar Nazir. Nazir’s sharp bouncers not only troubled him but also led to his dismissal after an edgy start.

The underwhelming performances of these key players could spark concern among selectors, as both Gill and Rohit are vital to India’s Test setup. With upcoming international assignments on the horizon, their form will remain under scrutiny.
