Patna” Bihar assembly was adjourned till lunch following pandemonium created over demands of judicial probe and exgratia made by the opposition in connection with the hooch tragedy of Saran district which rocked the lower house for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.
As soon as the house assembled for the day the leader of the opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha tried to raise the issue but the speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary objected and asked him to let the question hour be over. To this the opposition members created noise from their seats saying that the issue was important and must be taken up in the house.
Later with the permission of the speaker the leader of the opposition Sinha spoke on the issue and demanded judicial probe into the hooch tragedy of Saran district.
He also demanded an exgratia to be paid to the bereaved families and a debate must be held in the house on the issue.
He said the house must pay tribute to those died in the hooch tragedy.
Referring to the rules of excise department Sinha said that Rs 400000 exgratia was paid to the kith of every deceased of Gopalganj hooch tragedy.
Visibly agitated Sinha demanded tabling of the enquiry report of the investigation for which an order was made in the house involving one of his relative.
He said the FIR registered in the connection with the incident in which the name of his relative was taken on the floor of the house does not carry his relative’s name anywhere. However the person who was nabbed belongs to the ruling JD(U).
Objecting to the statement of parliamentary affairs minister on the floor of the house regarding his relative, Sinha demanded expunging of the content concerned from the proceedings of the house.
Sinha also said that several unparliamentary words used by the speaker should also be expunged to maintain the dignity of the chair and the house as well.
Meanwhile the speaker took up the question hour proceedings however the opposition continued to create noisy scenes in support of their demands and trooped to the well carrying posters which were snatched by the marshals following orders of the speaker.
Intervening into the ruckus parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that the matter raised by the leader of the opposition regarding his relative was being probed by the order of the speaker.
He announced to take stern action against anyone indulged in the hooch tragedy and liquor sale violating prohibition irrespective of his status.
The opposition members however continue to create ruckus chanting slogans against the government.
The question hour proceedings continued amid noisy scenes.
The speaker repeatedly asked the opposition members to resume their seats and said that the conduct of the entire opposition was undemocratic.
Failing to bring the house in order the speaker adjourned it at 11:35 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.
