India, South Korea share limelight in Asian Sub-Junior Sport Climbing

Jamshedpur: Hosts India made a confident start bagging three gold, six silver and four bronze medals on the second day of the 3-day Asian Sub-JuniorSport Climbing Championship here.

South Korea led the field with five gold, four silver and two bronze pieces at the Under 13 years & 11 years meet being staged at the J R D Tata stadium.

The third country to win gold on Saturday was Hong Kong China, which also got a bronze ..

This is the first time that India is hosting such an adventure sport which has been included in the Asian Games and Olympics as a competitive event.

The event is being held for both boys and girls in three events – lead, speed and bouldering. ..

The countries competing include Kazakhstan, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong China, Malaysia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan , the Philippines.and India.

Besides athletes from Korea and India, Sofielle Prajati Dela Cruz from Hong Kong China also shared the limelight as she bagged two gold

medals in speed and bouldering for girls under 11 years.

India earned their yellow metals through Shoolin R Neve from Pune in lead event for boys (U 11), Abhipsa Roy – also from Pune – in the speed event forsgirls (U 13 ) and Kundan Singh of Jamshedpur in speed event for boys (U13 ).

The six silver medal winners for India are Rajyabardhan Shedge for lead (boys u11), S Y Hande for speed, (girls u 11), J Dhanush in lead (boys u 13 ), Sukku Singh in lead (boys u11), Sudarshan Murmu in bouldering for boys (u11) and Sharayu Yogesh Hande in speed for girls (U11).

The bronze medal winners for the hosts included Rudra Karandikar in speed for boys (u 11), S R Neve lead for boys (u11), Sukku Singh in bouldering for boys ( U11) and Bhoj Birua in speed for boys ( U11).

Apart from Korea, India and Philippines, other medal winners include Kazakhstan (two silvers and three bronze), Singapore (one silver) and Thailand (one bronze).

The three-day championship which began on Friday will conclude with some more finals on Sunday.
