Gadag: Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai has alleged that internal conflicts are brewing within the Congress party, creating instability around the Chief Minister’s position.

Bommai pointed out that the desire for power is becoming evident within the party, reflecting past political upheavals in Karnataka.

“While they claim everything is fine, there is political backstabbing going on internally. Karnataka’s history is filled with such incidents—strong leaders like Virendra Patil and S. Bangarappa were replaced overnight despite having significant support. This kind of politics will continue,” Bommai remarked on Wednesday.

Bommai criticized the state government for failing to deliver in the past year, suggesting disillusionment among the public and even among Congress MLAs. He reiterated his belief that the Chief Minister’s position is under threat due to internal rivalries within the party.

When asked about the possibility of CM Siddaramaiah facing legal troubles in the MUDA scam, Bommai stated, “As a responsible former Chief Minister, I will not predict the future. The law will take its course.”

Bommai also responded to comments from veteran Congress leader RV Deshpande, stating, “I will not interpret his statement. But the reactions from within Congress indicate that not everything is fine within the party.”

Highlighting economic concerns, Bommai warned of an impending financial crisis. He credited the previous BJP government’s financial stability for sustaining the state over the past year but warned that the coming year would be challenging.

He expressed concerns over rising expenses, including the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations, and noted delays in salary payments to Anganwadi workers as an early sign of trouble.

Addressing the Mysuru Urban Development (MUDA) scam, Bommai criticized the government’s handling of the situation, pointing to the recent suspension of the Commissioner based on a technical committee’s report. “The technical committee has found faults, and the government has suspended the MUDA Commissioner. This suggests that not everything was done legally,” he said.

On the COVID report, Bommai maintained that no one is justifying any wrongdoing, urging patience until the final report is released. “Let the full report come out; truth will prevail,” he concluded.

Bommai’s statements reflect a growing sentiment of instability and economic concern, casting a shadow over the Congress party’s governance in Karnataka.
