The next hosts for the Winter Youth Olympic Games will be announced no later than early 2025, according to IOC President Thomas Bach.
“There will be no flag handover ceremony tonight because we will decide the next hosts at a later stage,” said Bach, hours before the closing ceremony of the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics.
“You can expect their announcement either later this year or at the latest early next year,” the IOC chief noted.
“The IOC’s commission needs a little more time to evaluate different projects and conclude which would be the most appropriate destination for the 2028 Winter Youth Olympics.”
Gangwon 2024, which opened on January 19, will end with a closing ceremony on Thursday evening. This is the first time that there will be no flag handover in YOG history.
