Astana: Kazakhstan has sent black boxes recovered from the wreckage of the Azerbaijan Airlines’ (AZAL) Embraer plane that crashed near the city of Aktau to Brazil in order to ensure the investigation is unbiased, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday.

On December 30, the Kazakh Transport Ministry said that Kazakhstan sent the black boxes to the Brazilian Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA).

“A government commission has been established for the investigation. More than that, 17 international experts have been invited, including those from the ICAO [International Civil Aviation Organization] and the IAC [Interstate Aviation Committee].

The government commission has decided to send the black boxes to Brazil, where the aircraft was made. I am sure that that was the only right decision to ensure that the investigation is objective and unbiased,” Tokayev told Kazakh newspaper Ana Tili.
