Walking his talk, Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA, Phool Singh Baraiya, from the seat of Bhander in Datia district, blackened his own face outside the Raj Bhavan in Bhopal, on Thursday, December 7. It was Congress stalwart and MP, Digvijay Singh, who applied small patches of black ink on Phool Singh’s face. A large crowd had also gathered to witness how the Bhander MLA kept his promise.

Prior to the declaration of the results for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections on December 3, Phool Singh Baraiya had stated that he would blacken his face if BJP won more than 50 assembly seats. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he had said, ‘I stand by my words. I will blacken my face at sharp 2 PM on December 7.’

Speaking further on the BJP’s mammoth victory in Madhya Pradesh, Baraiya accused the party of ‘buying’ votes, and stated that the BJP had sent envelopes filled with currency notes to purchase public votes.

Prior to Baraiya blackening his face on Thursday, the Congress Kisan Morcha General Secretary, Yogesh Dandautiya, on Wednesday, blackened his face as well in Gwalior, to show his solidarity with Baraiya.
