Mumbai: The Delhi Police on Wednesday gathered crucial technical evidence from Mumbai against Bibhav Kumar, a close aide of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, minutes before returning to the national capital with him, a source confirmed to UNI.

On Tuesday, Bibhav Kumar was taken to Mumbai in connection with the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal for gathering evidence.

The evidence retrieved by the Delhi Police was from an area close to the Mumbai airport, the source said.

Bibhav was taken across the Mumbai city and suburbs all of Tuesday up till Wednesday morning just before boarding the return flight.

The source confirmed that Kumar along with Delhi Police team stayed at a five-star hotel near the airport.

The investigators were trying to retrieve formatted data from his iPhone.

According to reports on May 17, Kumar formatted his phone before transferring the data to another person or device in the city.

The Delhi Police want to retrieve that data he formatted as it is crucial for the investigation.

He was also taken to forensic lab in Kalina in Mumbai suburb.

The police had previously informed the Tis Hazari court that they would take Kumar to a location in Mumbai, where he allegedly formatted his phone. They emphasised that the crime scene recreation was crucial to determine whether the alleged formatting was done to destroy vital evidence.

The Delhi Police have booked Kumar under the Indian Penal Code sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354(B) (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

He was arrested on May 18.
