Baghdad: A massive fire has broken out at the asphalt storage facility of an oil refinery in Iraq’s Erbil Governorate in the country’s north, the Rudaw broadcaster has reported.

The blaze occurred on Wednesday, but its cause was unclear, the broadcaster reported. About a dozen firefighting teams were reportedly battling the fire.

An eyewitness told the broadcaster that one person was injured in the fire and others suffered from breathing problems, although the broadcaster could not verify the information.

The eyewitness said he heard the sound of an explosion and described it as “a big bang,” the broadcaster reported.
