Minister’s nephew held for murder attempt

Bareilly (UP): Amit Saxena, a nephew of Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Forest Dr Arun Kumar, has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder, police sources said on Friday.

Amit Saxena and his accomplices vandalised Satkar restaurant in the city and ran over his vehicles on some employees on Tuesday. “It has been alleged that Amit and his gang assaulted the restaurant staff and demanded Rs 1 lakh as extortion money,” an officer said.

The sources said that Sushant Kashyap, son of the owner of the restaurant Naresh Kashyap, lodged a FIR against Amit Saxena for issuing threats on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police (City) Rahul Bhati said Amit Saxena was arrested on Thursday night. Two of his aides were also detained. “A case of attempt to murder has been added in the FIR lodged against him,” he said.
