Pyongyang: North Korea has again fired several cruise missiles toward the Yellow Sea, the Yonhap news agency reported on Friday, citing the South Korean military.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) was cited as saying it detected Pyongyang’s launch at around 11:00 a.m. local time (02:00 GMT) from its west coast. The South Korean military did not specify the number of missiles, the report said.

“While strengthening our monitoring and vigilance, our military has been closely coordinating with the United States to monitor additional signs of North Korea’s provocations,” the JCS said in a statement quoted by the news agency.

It is reportedly North Korea’s fourth cruise missile launch since the beginning of 2024.

On January 24, the JCS said North Korea had launched several cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea. Pyongyang later said it had conducted the first test-firing of a new type of strategic cruise missile, the Pulhwasal-3-31, which was still under development, KCNA reported.

The South Korean military said on January 28 that North Korea had fired several more cruise missiles from its east coast. The North’s state media said the following day that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had ordered another launch of the Pulhwasal-3-31 strategic cruise missile, this time from a submarine.
