Police attaches Atique’s property worth Rs 123 cr

Prayagraj: Property of mafia-turned-politician and former MP Atique Ahmad worth Rs 123 crore was seized by the police in Jhunsi town of Prayagraj district on Wednesday, a senior police officer said here.

Superintendent of Police (City) Santosh Kumar Meena said that the action against Atique has been taken under a case lodged against him at Dhumanganj police station under Gangster Act. “Atique brought these properties in his and his relatives’ name from the money earned from crime. The land which has been attached is located in Haveliya area under Jhunsi police station,” he said.

He said that the market price of 13 bigha land which has been attached is estimated to be around Rs 123 crore.

“This is the biggest action taken against the former MP so far. The action was taken on the order of District Magistrate Sanjay Khatri and heavy police force was deployed suspecting any kind of protest,” he said.

It may be noted that Atique is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad. The government has directed to launch a drive to demolish illicit properties of the mafias and history sheeters.
