Chennai: The Defence Ministry has hailed the contribution of India’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in meeting the requirements of the Defence Forces, helping in their giant strides towards self-reliance.

The Directorate of Quality Assurance of the Department of Defence Production organised a vendor-buyer interaction programme at the MSME Bhavan in Chennai on Wednesday.

Addressing the event through videoconferencing, Additional Director General of Quality Assurance A.Govardhan appealed to the SMEs to uphold quality consciousness in their production processes, saying the Department would work with them in their efforts.

He lauded the significant contribution of the small industries in indigenisation in defence production, and highlighted the Centre’s efforts in furthering ease of doing business, a defence release said.

Brig Rajneesh Bhatnagar, Controller, Directorate of Quality Assurance, Pune, in his address said the Union Government has simplified the procedures for the registration of small and medium industries in the procurement related portals of Ministry of Defence.

He said the initiatives like green channels and self-certifications for their products would greatly help in curtailing bureaucratic interventions and bring in transparency.

He also listed out various incentives for the small and medium industries which the Centre is providing.

He observed that the initiatives would result in an agile and robust business ecosystem, helping in enhancing the national defence capabilities.

Representatives from over a hundred small and medium enterprises participated in the
