Chandigarh: Punjab Social Security and Women Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, on Tuesday directed the District Program Officer (DPO), Muktsar Sahib, to take appropriate action against an Anganwadi worker for joining a political party.

Kaur said that she came to know that Anganwadi worker Hargobind Kaur joined a political party after she was posted in Sri Muktsar Sahib district.

The Minister explained that according to government rules, it is a violation for anyone receiving salary or emoluments from the government treasury to join any political party.

She added that the DPO has been instructed to take appropriate action against Hargobind Kaur, Anganwadi worker from the Social Security, Women, and Child Development Department, for joining a political party.

Dr Kaur emphasized that the duty and responsibility of an Anganwadi worker is to disseminate information about the schemes run by the department for the welfare of women and children to the general public under the Anganwadi Services Scheme.

She also emphasized that the workers and helpers must carry out their duties promptly to ensure the smooth functioning of Anganwadi Centers.

Any affiliation with a political party could hinder the proper delivery of services to the common people.
