The production of cloth other than sarees is increasing in Surat, which make sup 60% of the production of man-made fabric (MMF). Surat mills are now increasing the production of technical textile. In the last two years, the production of such cloth has increased four times. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, its production in Surat was a mere 3-5%, but now, it has reached 15-20%. Rather than wearing, technical textile is used in products like footwear, airplanes, and vehicles.

As per the Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce, Ashish Gujarati, 80 lakhs to 1 crore metres of such cloth are now being produced daily in the mills of Surat. The city’s mills are now also manufacturing a particular type of cloth used in airplanes. Actually, a 25% import duty has been imposed on the cloth made in the USA and China, because of which, American companies have started importing cloth from Surat.

Sports shoes fabrics, knitting fabrics, artificial flowers and leaves, furnishings, raincoats, umbrellas, parachutes, and wind-cheaters are in high demand, along with special textiles used in products like sofa resins, car seats, school bags, suitcases and briefcases fabrics, and machine-belt cloth.
