Agartala: Royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarman called upon the people from Northeast residing in New Delhi to join him at Jantar Mantar tomorrow to press the government for securing constitutional rights of the indigenous communities of the region.
Pradyot said although he is the founder of BJP’s ally in Tripura government TIPRA Motha who has been fighting for tribal rights since long, the protest in Delhi wouldn’t be political, rather to show the courage of Northeast for the protection of rights and development of the indigenous communities.
“The demonstration, to be led by indigenous people of Tripura, will demand urgent steps against illegal migration and the speedy implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, which was signed by Ministry of Home Affairs and Tripura government in Delhi before last Loksabha election – based on which TIPRA Motha joined with BJP,” Pradyot underlined.
He said, “There will be no political flag or political speech, only the Indian flag. Our demand is that the Government of India must think about the future of the indigenous people of Tripura. The Accord has been pending for long despite multiple meetings. We want to know why the implementation is delayed.”
He highlighted the efforts of Tripura youth David Murasing, who walked all the way to Delhi from Agartala with the same demands, and said, “I appealed for unity among indigenous people of the region beyond political affiliation. This time it’s not about politics but about solidarity as Tiprasa.” “Earlier, when we had nothing, we fought together for the District Council. Today, despite having resources, we lack courage. If you care about your children’s future, you must act now,” he said.
Stating his readiness to ‘fight, go to jail or even die’ for the cause,” he added.
Pradyot clarified that the movement is not against any community or caste but for the survival of the indigenous people of Tripura. Because immigration from Bangladesh for last one year has emerged as a biggest threat to the people of Tripura where land and resources are very limited.
