UP: Two criminals killed in police encounters

Bulandshahr (UP): Two criminals were killed in separate encounters with the police in which three police personnel, including a Sub Inspector (SI), were also injured, a senior officer said here on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said that the first encounter took place in Pahasu area late on Monday night where in-charge Munendra Pal Singh received information that a criminal wanted in a loot at a jeweller’s shop was moving in the area.

He said, “Acting on the tip off the police cordoned off the area. When the police signaled the criminal to stop he opened fire on the police team and he was injured in the retaliatory firing. A constable Shivam Singh was also injured in the incident,” he said.

The SSP said the deceased criminal was identified as Abdul, who carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, was admitted to the hospital where he succumbed to injury. “The second encounter took place near Walipur under Kotwali police station in which a criminal Ashish was injured. He too was admitted to the district hospital where he died,” he said.

He said that a SI and a constable were injured in cross firing. “Ashish too carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. He too was wanted in a loot at a jeweller’s shop. Illicit firearms and cartridges were recovered from the possession of both the criminals,” he said.
