Chennai: Buoyed by the massive victory in the bypoll to the Vikravandi Assembly seat, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ruling DMK President M K Stalin on Saturday asserted that this win will be etched in golden words in DMK’s history.
The victory march of the INDIA alliance that started in 2019, is continuing, he said.
This record breaking victory was a crowning glory for the various achievements of the DMK regime and it has given a huge encouragement and additional responsibility to do more, he said, in a statement, issued after the victory of his party candidate Anniyur Siva was almost confirmed after
he established an unassailable lead of more than 60,000 votes in Vikravandi, which was a DMK stronghold, over his PMK rival C.Anbumani.
“We are continuing our historic and victorious journey. We are with the people and people are with us”, Mr Stalin said, while thanking the voters, party cadres and leaders of the INDIA alliance for working hard for the Party’s victory in the bypoll.
He said this massive victory comes in the backdrop of the DMK-led Front, which is also a key partner of the Congress-led INDIA alliance at the National level, sweeping the recent Lok Sabha polls by winning all the 40 seats (39 in Tamil Nadu and the lone seat in Puducherry).
Mr Stalin hailed Anniyur Siva’s victory in the polls and said the main Opposition AIADMK, which was yet to overcome from the Lok Sabha poll rout, boycotted the Vikravani bye-election, knowing well that it would face a similar rout again.
The BJP-led Front had fielded its ally, the PMK in the election. However, the mystery over the PMK contesting the polls was still not known as it was always saying that it would never contest any bypoll, he added.
Asserting that the BJP-front had entered the fray despite being well are that it would lose, Mr Stalin said the mudslinging and the bundle of lies unleashed by the saffron party against the DMK, especially against him, did not go well with the people and the voters of Vikravandi have driven them out.
This victory proved that DMK was always needed for the State’s development and for the people’s progress, he added.
