6216 pilgrims leave from Jammu base camp Monday for Amarnath

Jammu: Amid chants of ‘Bom Bom Bhole’, a fresh batch of 6216 pilgrims on Monday left for Amarnath Cave Shrine here from Bhagwati Nagar Base camp.

An official said that a batch of 6216 pilgrims left the base camp in a convoy of 225 vehicles.

As many as 3164 pilgrims (2386 males,647 females, six children, 78 sadhus and 21 sadhvis) left for Pahalgam in a convoy of 122 vehicles.

For Baltal, 3052 pilgrims (1818 males, 1224 females,10 children) left in a convoy of 103 vehicles amid tight security arrangements.

An official said that 20806 pilgrims performed darshan at Holy Cave smoothly and comfortably on Sunday with the support of administration and government agencies.

An official said the total count of yatris surpassed the two lakh mark in the first half of the month of July this year.

He said that an aggregate of 229221 devotees undertook the pilgrimage during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

The yatra started on July 1 and will conclude on August 31.
