All around the globe, mental health issues are on a worrisome hike. As per the Global Burden of Disease Project, 1 out of every 10 people in the world is suffering from problems related to mental health, and there are many mental health issue which exacerbate with age. One of the reasons behind increasing mental health issues has been found in air pollution, which is being believed to turn people into mental health patients. More of challenges have also been posed to scientists because of the complexity of the structure and functioning of the brain.

It has been found out that between 1998 and 2017, only for one problem associated with the human brain, Alzheimer’s, 3511 crore rupees have been spent, but no solid results could be reached. Now, many big drug companies have started showing new interest in the field of mental health issues, and have eased the ways towards solutions with the use of new ideas and techniques. New methods of treatment like gene therapies have provided scientists with new opportunities to work on mental health issues. Development has also been made in the treatment of chronic problems. Biomedicine has too, tried to strengthen brain health, but mental health issues cannot get cured with the use of medicines only.

Therefore, it is crucial for psychologists to become aware first, about factors like healthy environments, exercise, education, pollution, all of which affect mental health.
