At the end of the month of October, a crucial meeting of the UNSC is going to take place in India. The meeting will commence on 28th October in Mumbai, while the complete session will take place in New Delhi on the 29th of October. 15 countries, which are part of the committee will prepare strategies to combat the menace of internet, dark-web, and technology’s use for terrorism.

Experts are of the opinion that Pakistan’s name has emerged multiple times, in association with cases of promoting the use of dark web and internet for terror-related activities. With the meeting taking place in India, we can be successful in getting a resolution passed in our favour, for which India has made the diplomatic preparations.

It is for the first time after 7 long years that the committee of the UNSC is moving out of its headquarters in New York. The last time the meeting took place outside New York was in 2015, at Spain’s Madrid. According to the United Nations, the major points of discussion of the Delhi meeting will be regarding the use of ultra-modern communications and technology for terrorism, brainstorming will be done to deal with the spread of terrorism through dark-web and mainstream internet.

The meeting will primarily focus on three aspects- to find the solution to stop terrorists to present their side in the virtual space; to update the member countries about latest studies and threats; and to get insights into each other’s legal frameworks and effective norms.

One of the member countries in the committee is China, which has been constant at stifling the proposals of blacklisting multiple terrorists from Pakistan, its ally, and with the counter-terrorism meeting taking place in India, their alliance is certain to be affected.
